President Barack Obama is visiting Cincinnati today.  His campaign says that the President will speak this afternoon at 2:20 at Cincinnati Music Hall , located at 1241 Elm Street.

Russia and the Race for the Arctic

In 2007, Russia planted a titanium flag in the chilly arctic depths at the North Pole. "Our task is to remind the world that Russia is a great Arctic and scientific power," said the leader of the expedition.

Global climate change has caused unprecedented changes to the Arctic environment, especially a rapid decrease in the summer sea ice sheet. While perilous to the survival of the iconic polar bear, many humans are watching these changes with an eye to what riches an open Arctic Ocean might bring forth: in oil and gas, mining, and open-water transportation. Five countries can lay claim to the potential wealth of the Arctic Ocean: Canada, Denmark, Norway, Russia, and the United States.

New Ohio Guide: Maria Stein

There's a section of Northwest Ohio where the flat rich farmland is poked by a series of church steeples – like push pins marking places on a map. The churches are topped by Catholic Crosses – as they were built by a sweeping German Catholic immigration, which began back in the 1830s.

Here in Mercer county the Convent of Maria Stein is the heart of it all, built by Father Francis de Sales Brunner in 1846. The bishop in Cincinnati at the time was looking for a German-speaking priest to minister to the growing German Catholic population.

Guard Care program to provide free medical services to area residents

SPRINGFIELD — The Ohio National Guard will be sending 80 medical workers to Springfield on July 28 and 29. The workers are part of the annual Guard Care program that provides free medical and dental services to Ohio residents.

Leslie Wade with the Clark County Combined Health District, says the two day program offers medical and dental help to residents regardless of their income level and whether or not they have insurance.

What's Great in Dayton: July 13 - 19, 2012

The Peace Museum's new exhibit has twelve powerful portraits from artist Robert Shetterly's series, 'Americans Who Tell the Truth.' Each portrait includes a quote and short biography.  One of the portraits is of Paul K. Chappell, a West Point Graduate from California who has spoken three times in Dayton. Dayton International Peace Museum and always free admission.
