Education Official Apologizes for Ethics Violation

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio's leading education official has issue a public apology after a state watchdog found that he lobbied for a Texas-based standardized testing firm last year while on the company's payroll.

Superintendent Stan Heffner said he had shown bad judgment and would accept whatever punishment the Ohio Board of Education deems necessary.

Truvada: HIV Prevention Drug Pros and Cons

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a preventative drug for HIV.  The drug is called Truvada, and though it has been hailed as good news in the fight against HIV / AIDS, says there are some concerns associated with the treatment.  Bill Hardy with AIDS Resource Center Ohio gives us the pros and cons in this ARC update on WYSO's Morning Edition.

Author O'Brian Wins Dayton Peace Prize

Vietnam veteran and author Tim O'Brien has been named the winner of the Dayton Literary Peace Prize's distinguished achievement award.

O'Brien's books and short stories show war from a regular soldier's eyes and also chronicle its long-lasting impacts. He wrote about his Vietnam experience as an Army infantryman in the 1973 memoir: "If I Die in a Combat Zone, Box Me Up and Ship Me Home." Subsequent works have combined fiction with real details from his experience.

Pawlenty stumps for Romney in Springfield

On Monday, Governor Tim Pawlenty attended the grand opening of the Clark County GOP headquarters.

In a room full of about 50 GOP supporters, volunteers, state and local politicians, Pawlenty talked about the reasons he felt President Obama doesn't deserve a second term.
