Poor Will's Almanack for the second week of Early Winter.

Two thousand years ago, the Roman naturalist, Pliny praised the cold northern winds as the "healthiest of all."

During the eighteenth century, physicians said the same thing. For example, William Currie wrote that "the winds which prevail during the greatest part of winter… though they are severe and piercing cold...give vigor to the constitution and a freshness and bloom to the complexion."

Kasich Says Long-Awaited Turnpike Plan Coming on Thursday

The governor is hinting strongly that a plan to lease the Ohio Turnpike is coming soon, possibly official by the end of the week.

Gov. John Kasich has been talking about his turnpike plans for months, but not releasing many hints, other than to say that he considers the toll road an undervalued asset. But he told a group of county commissioners and county engineers to think about the turnpike this way:

Group Formed in Wake of Ohio Foster-Care Deaths

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has formed an advisory group to help solve some of the biggest problems in the state's foster-care system, including safety and stability.

DeWine announced the formation of the group at a news conference on Monday and gave its members a March deadline to issue recommendations to improve the system.

The announcement came almost one year after DeWine's office held the first of eight child-safety summits in the state following a rash of shocking cases.

Dan Raridan Live on Excursions 12/10/2012

Dan Raridan stopped by Excursions to talk about his new album, Give It Up. The release of the new album with be at South Park Tavern on Saturday, December 15th. Dan Raridan will be joined live by the Calientes with special guests Josh Eagle and the Harvast City and Jane Sachs.

Dan performed three songs on the new album while in the WYSO studios including: "Dream With Me," "Sunshine in the Rain Be My Love," and "Hold You Tight." Dan played every single instrument on the new album.
