NFHA Alleges Banks Use Discriminatory Practices

The National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) and four of its member organizations announced yesterday, they are filing a federal housing discrimination complaint against Wells Fargo Bank. The complaint will be filed with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It's the result of an undercover investigation, and the Housing Alliance says major American banks like Wells Fargo are failing to maintain and market Real Estate Owned (REO) properties in African-American and Latino neighborhoods.

DDN: Home Price Sales Rise

A report focusing on single-family home and condo sales indicates Dayton Home prices grew rapidly in the last four months. According to Clear Capital’s quarterly Home Data Index, local home prices rose by 6.3 percent. Only Phoenix Arizona saw a higher climb in home prices.

New Funding to Help Homeless in Montgomery County

Funds from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development are providing some additional support for the homeless. WYSO’s Jerry Kenney has the details.

Nearly $700,000 dollars are coming to Montgomery County HUD agencies. Debbie Watts Robinson is CEO with Miami Valley Housing Opportunities.

MVHO received $325,000 in grant money – that will go towards the purchase of 12 housing units for single adults with disabilities.

Ohio, Mich. Lawmakers Write Obama on Vacant Homes

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) - A bipartisan group of Ohio and Michigan members of Congress is asking President Barack Obama to help communities in the two states deal with abandoned and vacant homes.

In a letter dated Monday, the 16 lawmakers say stressed local governments need federal support to demolish decaying properties on a large scale.

The letter says weak housing markets in Ohio and Michigan have been devastated by slow population growth. The lawmakers say it's estimated Ohio has more than 70,000 empty homes in such bad shape that they need to be torn down.
