Per-Capita Income On The Rise In Ohio

More good news for the Ohio economy: The state's per-capita income rose at one of the fastest rates in the nation last year.

That's according to an analysis by The Dayton Daily News, which says the statistic is a sign that the state's economy is recovering more quickly than that most of the country.

Per-capita personal income includes all earnings such as wages, dividends, interest income and rents. In Ohio, it rose by 1.7 percent to $39,289 between 2011 and 2012. That was a larger increase than all but two other states.

Former U.S. Senator George Voinovich says he SUPPORTS tax increases on the wealthy.

But Voinovich, who was governor of the Buckeye State in the 90s, says his willingness to compromise comes with strings attached.

Dayton Area Sees Job Growth From Last Year

A report focusing on single-family home and condo sales indicates Dayton Home prices grew rapidly in the last four months. According to Clear Capital’s quarterly Home Data Index, local home prices rose by 6.3 percent. Only Phoenix Arizona saw a higher climb in home prices.

70,000 Ohioans To Lose Unemployment Benefits If Congress Doesn't Extend Federal Benefits

Thousands of jobless Ohioans are in danger of running out of their unemployment benefits early next year, if Congress doesn't renew a federal extension of benefits. Ben Johnson is with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

"70,000 people will exhaust their unemployment compensation in January, another 36, 000, almost 37,000 in February, about 58,000 in March and more than 10,000 between March and June but the numbers are smaller," says Johnson.
