Dayton VA Medical Center en Dayton Veterans Unit To Get $5M Renovation <p>A veterans center in Dayton is planning a $5 million renovation of the dementia unit of its long-term care facility.</p><p>Officials at the Dayton VA Medical Center tell the Dayton Daily News that the project calls for modernizing the 40-bed unit with updated safety and technology features, and "quality-of-life" enhancements.</p><p>Hospital officials say the renovation is part of $84 million in upgrades already approved for federal funding.</p><p>The medical center provides medical care to more than 35,000 veterans a year at its campus, west of downtown Dayton.</p> Mon, 27 Jan 2014 12:04:00 +0000 Associated Press & Dayton Daily News 45118 at DDN:Ohio VA Clinic Paid $940K in Cases Over 8 Deaths <p>DAYTON, Ohio(AP) - Public records show the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs paid out $940,000 in cases related to the deaths of eight Dayton VA Medical Center patients.</p><p>The center came under scrutiny last year after allegations of improper hygiene by a dentist at a clinic. Records requested and obtained by the Dayton Daily News reveal the center has faced 72 medical malpractice claims since 2007, including those related to eight deaths between 2005 and 2008. An inspector general&#39;s spokeswoman would not comment Monday.</p><p>An investigation found a clinic dentist wasn&#39;t regularly changing latex gloves or properly sterilizing equipment.
