Officials Outline Duties of Nonprofit JobsOhio

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Business loans and certain grants once handled by the state Department of Development will soon be taken over by a nonprofit organization.

State officials outlined some job-creation functions that will move from the state-run department to the semiprivate JobsOhio during a meeting Tuesday with business leaders and elected officials in Dayton.

The west-central area is one of six economic development regions that the state will be divided into under JobsOhio.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio regulators are proposing that companies get breaks on their electric bills for certain levels of new hiring and investment in the state.

Public Utilities Commission of Ohio spokeswoman, Beth Trombold, tells The Columbus Dispatch the plan is aimed at boosting jobs and economic development. It’s likely the rate cuts would mainly go to large businesses and that other electric customers would pay more.

Two new companies are coming to Springfield, one is an insurance firm and the other sells gift items. Between the two of them, hundreds of the jobs could be coming to Clark County. That's why the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, along with the Workforce Development Center, is holding a job fair tomorrorw to connect job seekers with employers.
