From the HERA program alone, the city of Dayton, Kettering, and Fairborn together received 29.3 million dollars; of that, 19 million went to Dayton, and they’ve used about 3.5 million to purchase and rehab foreclosed homes.</p> Mon, 13 May 2013 18:39:57 +0000 Jerry Kenney 33093 at http://wyso.org Dayton Seeks Ways to Continue Neighborhood Revitalization Dayton Tears Into Vacant Houses http://wyso.org/post/dayton-tears-vacant-houses <p>City officials in Dayton are spending $875,000 to tear down 80 vacant houses and buildings.</p><p>But, the officials say, that will barely put a dent in the 7,000 abandoned structures in the city. Deputy City Manager Shelley Dickstein said the goal is to tear down 150 of them this year.</p><p>On average, it costs the city $10,000 to demolish a vacant structure.</p><p>The Dayton Daily News reports that the money comes from the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
