Sports en Springfield to Honor Local Boxing Legend <p>After years of fundraising, a statue will be erected on Saturday by the old South High School in Springfield to honor boxing legend Davey Moore. It marks the 50th year after his death.<br><br>Moore was the boxing icon that inspired the Bob Dylan song; "Who Killed Davey Moore?"<br>&nbsp;<br>Moore was born in Springfield.&nbsp; He used boxing to climb out of Clark County to eventually compete in the Olympics and later become the featherweight champion of the world. After he was knocked out during a fight with Cuban boxer Sugar Ramos in 1963, he died a few days later.<br> Fri, 20 Sep 2013 20:09:26 +0000 Wayne Baker 39535 at Ohio Bills Aimed at Errors in Sports Safety Law <p>State lawmakers are working to correct a new Ohio law that would allow coaches and referees in youth sports leagues to be criminally prosecuted if they don't follow requirements regarding players' head injuries.</p><p>The new law takes effect in late April. It requires coaches, volunteers and officials in youth sports organizations to have players who show concussion-like symptoms sit out games or practices until they're checked and cleared by a doctor or licensed health care provider. The Dayton Daily News reports that for the affected districts, the average increase is more than 100 percent.</p><p>The Beavercreek, Huber Heights, Valley View and Vandalia Butler school districts are all facing increases.
