Event Description

Unity House, the AASI Dormitory

Join us for a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Afro American Studies Institute (AASI). Founded in 1968, AASI was a student-run college-within-the-college. A Black student group received funding to retain external scholars to tape lectures and lead discussions. Sixty reel-to-reel tapes of lectures and class discussions were recently discovered and digitized. The session will discuss AASI and showcase excerpts of the recordings. Panelists include Antioch College alumni: Chuck Bell ’71, Bill Brower ’10, Maceo Cofield ’71, and Robyn King ’71. Moderated by Kevin McGruder, Associate Professor of History.
