Age: 16+ Etching by metalsmiths to decorate metal objects has been utilized since the Middle Ages and may even go back to antiquity. Students create a mixed metal pendant and/or earrings of their own design as time allows. Students learn to transfer an image that creates well defined etched lines into copper and mount it on a bronze or aluminum substrate by means of rivets. Other silversmithing techniques covered are sawing, filing, drilling, and riveting. $45 materials fee due to instructor at first class. Wed. 7-9 p.m. May 2-23. $110/resident; $120/non-resident.
