Event Description

DAYTON, OHIO – APRIL 11, 2017 – Join the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery as we raise awareness about endangered species with three days of special programming in May. Each day is dedicated to the conservation of wildlife either found in the Discovery Zoo or represented in local animal life. These include migrating birds, turtles, and salamanders, and visitors are encouraged to learn more about ongoing efforts to save habitats and minimize our impact on species large and small. Boonshoft Museum Celebrates Salamander Saturday Join the fun on Saturday, May 6, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.when the Boonshoft Museum’s Discovery Zoo turns its attention to Salamanders. This special day of recognition is known as Salamander Saturday. Learn about the diversity and conservation of salamanders in the United States. Salamander Saturday Schedule of Events Include: • Salamander Talk – 11:30 a.m. • Tide Pool (Education Program) – 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. • Salamander Talk – 2:00 p.m. • Keeper Talk – 3:00 p.m. Join the Discovery Zoo in a Salute to International Migratory Bird Day The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery invites you to a celebration of migratory birds on Saturday, May 13, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. International Migratory Bird Day is a world-wide tip-of-the-hat to more than 350 species of our fine feathered friends who migrate for thousands of miles each year to find desirable climates to nest in. Discovery Zoo Hosts World Turtle Day at the Boonshoft Museum On Saturday, May 27, 2017, the Discovery Zoo of the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery will celebrate World Turtle Day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. World Turtle Day is 17 years old this year and was established to protect this endangered species and shine a light on the issues that face these most ancient of animals. World Turtle Day is now being observed around the world. About the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery Located at 2600 DeWeese Parkway, the Boonshoft Museum is open to the public 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 12 noon-5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
