Report: Utica Shale Production Grows In Ohio

A new federal report says that natural gas production in Ohio's Utica Shale region is growing rapidly.

The report issued Monday found that production from the Utica region in eastern Ohio increased by more than 10 times over the last two years, from 115 million cubic feet per day in 2012 to an estimated 1.3 billion cubic feet per day by September 2014.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says the Utica is one of the fastest growing natural gas production areas in the United States. Utica oil production has also increased to about 40,000 barrels per day.

Ohio Court To Hear Former Death Row Inmate's Claim

The Ohio Supreme Court has accepted the appeal of a former death row inmate trying to clear his name in a pair of slayings he didn't commit.

Dale Johnston of suburban Columbus was sentenced to die in 1984 for the shooting deaths of his teenage stepdaughter and her fiance two years earlier.

The case against him fell apart on appeal, and he was freed in 1990. Another man confessed in 2008 to killing the couple.

Two years ago, a Franklin County judge declared the 80-year-old Johnston innocent in the slayings, allowing him to seek compensation from the state.

Algae Toxin Prompts Warning At Southwest Ohio Lake

BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) - An advisory has been issued for swimmers at East Fork Lake in southwest Ohio because of a toxin produced by blue-green algae.

The advisory recommends that visitors who are very young, elderly or have compromised immune systems avoid swimming or wading at the lake in Clermont County, east of Cincinnati. The advisory issued Monday applies to the main beach and the campground beach.

Officials say state testing there found the toxin in concentrations higher than the levels at which it has been shown to affect the liver.
