First Friday

Today is First Friday in downtown Dayton. There will be a Walking Tour, Craft Battle, Beer Tasting, Art Shows, and More.

When two cynical lawyers-one black and one white- prepare to defend a powerful white businessman accused of raping a young black woman, they must confront their own perceptions and prejudices….and this is a play at the Human Race Theatre.

Housed in a former drugstore building across the street from downtown Dayton's Courthouse Square, the Collaboratory is a blank slate for developing collaborative projects.  The Blue Sky Project's Peter Benkendorf envisions the Collaboratory as being a hub of activity where community members can gather to brainstorm and develop new ideas.  Benkendorf sat down with Kaleidoscope host Juliet Fromholt in the Collaboratory space to discuss some of his vision for the space and how the community can get involved.

Downtown's First Friday art hop will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. tonight. Activated spaces will host a tour of newly installed window clings featuring the work of local artists. The tour begins at American Pi 37 South St. Clair Street at 5:45 p.m.  The installation of the window clings is the final phase of the Activated Spaces
Street Team art initiative, which placed works of art in vacant storefront windows throughout downtown.

Tonight is First Friday in downtown Dayton and the United Way will host the Live United Block Party in the Oregon District from 4 to 7 p.m. 19 agencies of the organization will set up booths along Fifth Street, If you visit more than 10 of the booths then you will be entered into a raffle to win several prizes, including a diamond tennis bracelet and a pair of tickets to a Cincinnati Bengals football game. Look for Heater, the Dayton Dragons' mascot, wearing a Live United T-shirt during the block party.

RiverScape MetroPark will host the final concert in this year's series, with Stranger performing from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The park's concession stand will be open and beer will be sold from 5 to 7 p.m. MetroParks will demonstrate various kayaking skills on the river and free kayak rentals will be available.
