The City of Dayton announced it will begin a new development project downtown. The commission approved a $36 million pre-development agreement for what’s called the Water Street Project that will enhance riverfront property in the city.

Ohio is getting some national recognition for business development and job creation.

The Buckeye State ranked second in the country behind Texas last year for attracting new companies and business expansion. That's according to the annual list compiled by the business trade magazine Site Selection.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that several Ohio cities were recognized, too.

Columbus finished 10th among metropolitan areas with a population of at least 1 million people, and Cincinnati finished eighth.

After serving four months as the Ohio Development Leader, Jim Leftwich is leaving the position.

Gov. John Kasich's office stated that as Leftwich plans to return to the private sector, Christiane "Chris" Schmenk, general counsel for the Ohio Department of Development, will take over. Schmenk will lead the department's reorganization as the state's economic development efforts are moved to the new nonprofit private corporation JobsOhio. Schmenk will assume the director's role on Aug. 1.

A meeting between RG Properties and Miami Township trustees has resulted in a deal to construct a $9 million retail building at Lyons Road and Ohio 741.

Last night, founder of RG Properties, Randy Gunlock, entered into an executive session with the township officials after they discussed passing a resolution for the construction.

Springfield is adding another piece to its citywide redevelopment plans, as city commissioners have approved turning five acres of green space into two 8,400 square foot restaurant and retail buildings.

Commissioners will allow the development to take place at the site of the former Roosevelt Middle school on North Limestone Street. The new development will be called the Limestone Center and will be built by PGI Development of Powell, Ohio.

PGI will also build two office buildings behind the restaurant and retail space, which will be a combined 30,000 square feet.
