Students, Open Carry Activists To Hold Separate Rallies In Beavercreek

Two groups are planning separate demonstrations this weekend centered around the death of 22-year-old John Crawford III, an unarmed black man who was shot by a Beavercreek police officer in Walmart Aug. 5.

A special Greene County Grand Jury decided not to indict Sergeant David Darkow and Officer Sean Williams, the two police officers involved in the shooting. They responded to a 9-1-1 call claiming Crawford was wandering around the store pointing a gun at people; the gun was later found to be an air rifle bb gun sold in the store.

State Releases Details In Crawford Case

Ohio’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation has released details about the officer-involved shooting at a Beavercreek Walmart in August. That's after a special grand jury last week found no wrongdoing on the part of two Beavercreek police officers who shot and killed 22-year-old John Crawford III, a black man. The US Department of Justice is now reviewing the case.

Beavercreek Walmart Pulls Air Rifles From Its Shelves

A partial description of the Crosman MK-177 Tactical Air Rifle John Crawford picked up from a Walmart shelf says the gun "is useful for both target practice when perfecting your aim and for going after small game."

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. says pellet guns have been pulled from shelves at the Ohio store where 22-year-old John Crawford - holding an air rifle was fatally shot by police.
 
A spokesman for the world's largest retailer tells The Associated Press that the move last week was a store-specific decision, not a change in national policy.

  • After a grand jury’s decision in Greene County this past week, federal investigators announced they’ll review the case of John Crawford III who was killed by police inside a Walmart store in Beavercreek on August 5th. US Attorney Carter Stewart will take part in that investigation.  I spoke with him by phone following the announcement.

Crawford Family Reacts To Grand Jury Decision Not To Indict

The family of a man killed by police inside a Beavercreek Walmart are reacting to the news that a grand jury chose not to indict two police officers in the August 5 shooting. Following the announcement Wednesday from a special prosecutor, the federal Department of Justice announced it will conduct its own investigation into the death of John Crawford III.
