AAA Expects Holiday Travel By 3.5 Million Ohioans

Auto club AAA estimates more than 3.5 million Ohioans will travel at least 50 miles from home during the year-end holiday period running from Saturday through New Year's Day.

That number is up slightly from last year. AAA says travel during this holiday season has increased with economic improvements in recent years. Average gas prices now are expected to remain lower during the holidays than they were a year ago.

AAA: Labor Day Regional Travel Up This Year

AAA says regional travel this weekend is expected to be up 3.3% over last year's Labor Day holiday.  The auto club predicts that with gas prices lower than they were a year ago, some 1.2 million Ohioans are hittng the road.

AAA says that, nationally, vacationers won't go as far as they did last year, but Ohioans will still be putting in some travel time.  The popular spots this year, according to book agents are Gatlinberg and Hilton Head, and in Ohio, Hocking Hills and Newport Aquarium.

AAA forecasts dip in Ohio Labor Day travel

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A survey predicts a 2 percent drop in Labor Day travel by Ohioans, compared to last year's holiday weekend.

Auto club AAA said Wednesday that the decline is anticipated because of recent uncertainty about the economy as well as rising air fares.

Gas prices are not expected to have much impact. AAA says 71 percent of people intending to travel around the holiday say the cost of gasoline won't affect their plans.
