Local Officer Fired Over Juvinile Inmate Treatment
Miami Township deputy police chief John DiPietro has been fired over actions last year involving the jail decontamination of a 17-year-old girl.
Trustees voted Wednesday to terminate after hours of testimony in disciplinary hearings that began last year. He had been on paid administrative leave since October.
Police say the girl was pepper-sprayed after fleeing an officer investigating a shoplifting complaint. Authorities say DiPietro allowed her to take her clothes off and hosed her down without asking for a female officer's help. He also allegedly took a photo of her tattoo with his cell phone and shared it with a friend, and didn't file reports properly.
The 26-year veteran says he is the victim of a conspiracy. His attorney might appeal.
