Immigration Reform Rally Scheduled for Boehner's Clark County Office
A large group of protestors and speakers are expected to lead a rally for immigration reform Saturday afternoon at Speaker of the House John Boehner's Clark County office.
Troy Jackson is director of the community action group Ohio Prophetic Voices, which helped put the event together. He says the group is urging Boehner to get Congress to pass a roadmap to citizenship and to help an Ohioan who soon may be deported.
"So we are going to be encouraging Speaker Boehner to be a leader on immigration reform which we believe is consistent with his faith, his values his commitment to family. We are also asking Speaker Boehner to intervene on the behalf of a young dreamer who is facing deportation right now named Julio Tellez, who is from his district. Julio's family has two siblings who are citizens and his mom is undocumented. So we're asking Speaker Boehner to intervene immediately on Julio's case," Jackson said.
At tomorrow's rally a group of speakers led by Mayor Warren Copeland are scheduled to address the crowd about Tellez and immigration reform.
Boehner's staff says the speaker would not have any comment until after the rally.
