Book Nook: Unknown Pleasures - Inside Joy Division, by Peter Hook

Hear the full interview.

During the late 1970's Manchester, England was a hotbed of musical activity. One of the bands that burst forth from that scene was Joy Division. They were not together very long. Joy Division ended when Ian
Curtis, their lead singer, took his own life as the band was preparing to embark on their first tour of the United States. A tour that never happened.

All these years later the band has achieved an iconic cult status. A number of books have been written about them. Peter Hook was the bassist for Joy Division and he finally decided it was time that somebody who was
there actually experiencing the gigs, the recording sessions, and that ultimate tragedy should write a book about it. Hook's reflections on what it felt like to be part of that range from the savage to the bittersweet.
